Sanjay Patra Executive Director, Financial Management Services Foundation
Mr. Sanjay Patra has experience of 25 years in the Voluntary & Development Sector. He is currently the Executive director of the Financial Management Services Foundation (FMSF) and has served with this organization since 1998. FMSF is a nonprofit organization responsible for financial monitoring & capacity building of development organizations in South Asia (India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka & Pakistan). FMSF has a wide network of over 300 development organizations in this region.
In the year 2005-07 he was a member of the Task Group formed by the Planning Commission for drafting policy on the Voluntary Sector. He has also been a Resource Person in many National as well as International Workshops specializing in the areas of Financial Management, Governance and Legal aspects of the Voluntary Sector. Till date he has facilitated more than 200 workshops. He is a faculty in various Diploma/ Degree program of educational institutions.
Over the years, he has engaged in major research, training and has also authored books on financial audit & written several articles. Some of them include :

- Handbook on Financial Audit and Reporting in NGOs;
- Handbook on Social Audit in NGOs.

Mr. Sanjay Patra is the Co-Chairperson of the Advisory Committee for the Diploma in Financial Management and Accountability (DFMA), a joint initiative of Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), one of India’s premier social science institutes, and the Financial Management Service Foundation (FMSF). The overall objective of the course is to promote accountability in the sector by strengthening financial management practices and building individual capacities. On behalf of FMSF, Sanjay coordinates the Nonprofit Organization Governance Program (NGP), a four-month online program to build capacity and create a facilitative atmosphere of personnel working in nonprofit organizational governance (including voluntary associations and civil society organizations). Sanjay acts as a resource person for the Masters of Arts in Participatory Development jointly offered by Participatory Research in Asia (PRIA) and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). This program helps to strengthen the understanding of the concept and practice of participatory development and develop knowledge and skills for financial management of nonprofit groups. He is also a visiting faculty for Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH), Greater Noida and Haggai Institute, Singapore and Hawaii. A recognized social activist and writer, Sanjay has been a member of a number of committees of the Government of India and several national and international nonprofit groups working on civil society issues. He is also a leading light of the Voluntary Associations Network of India [VANI], which provides an interface with the government. He is also a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, and an M.Com and B.com from Ravenshaw College, Cuttack.
